OPENING UP AT WORK CAN HAVE A GREAT IMPACT ON YOUR CAREER GROWTH

I've spent and maybe continue to spend, portions of my professional life consumed with the idea that being too honest at work can backfire.  I was raised with this idea of meritocracies being a real thing. Work hard, you'll be rewarded.  Unfortunately, I've learned all too hard that this isn't always the case.  The adage, "it's not what you know, but who you know" couldn't be truer in today's corporate world.  But for B Dads, getting to know some of your non black co-workers can be hard when your client dinner stories about Luther Vandross being the favorite soundtrack to summer and not Rolling Stones are met with crickets.  Or when everyone's watched Modern Family last night, but has no idea what the show Atlanta is about.  There are cultural barriers, but this podcast really helps us all focus on using curiosity and vulnerability as a way of making your time at work and within your career more fulfilling and successful as you look to achieve your professional goals.  Moving beyond race as a barrier to how you connect, and into more human connection skills, can really pay off.
