TO OUR DAUGHTERS: YOU CAN BE AN ASTROPHYSICIST...JUST ASK JEDIDAH ISLER

We don’t pretest to know enough nor have the perfect view of the world, but when we see amazing women breaking barriers and setting great examples for our future - we feel inspired. I watched Jedidah Isler’s TED Talk where she 1) uses words bigger and more complicated than my brain can interpret (#blackgirlmagic), but 2) helps us understand that she is one of only a handful of astrophysicists of African American descent in our world. Her unlikely journey started with a passive hint from a poster on a walk home - encouraging students of color to become physicists. A reminder that inspiration can come at any time and from any place. Our young girls will have some great days and some not so great days on their journey and Jedidah’s story helps provide words of encouragement in both the dark and the light. Absolutely amazing story of an amazing woman that reminds us all, in the words of The Carters - “We Can Do Anything”!
